DISCOURAGED

Discouraged

The current age seems to give great importance to our do-ing... the tasks and business and skills we undertake. It's easy to forget that we are human be-ings, that we have worth just in our being. With this pandemic, there is little we can do. Some of us can't go to our regular jobs. Some of us can't perform with the skills and gifts that have been given us. Some of us can't parent or teach the way we to which we are accustomed.

Being robbed of special events like birthdays or graduations, being cheated out of significant moments like births, funerals, weddings, retirement parties, and not knowing what to do with ourselves when events/venues are closed can make us ask "what's the use?" or "why even bother trying?" or "what difference do I make?" This is the dark, empty pit of discouragement. Especially for those who have worked so hard to build the life they have, it can be demoralizing to watch so much of life be put on hold.

Other words for this feeling: Disheartened, disappointed, impotent, powerless, beaten-down, weak, useless, worthless, defeated
