Vigil for Nonviolence

Vigil for Nonviolence, Justice and Peace
12:00 - 12:30 PM Central Time

If we want to reap the harvest of peace and justice in the future, we will have to sow seeds of nonviolence, here and now, in the present.  [Mairead Corrigan]

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.  [Martin Luther King, Jr.]

It isn't enough to talk about peace, one must believe in it.  And it isn't enough to believe in it, one must work at it.  [Eleanor Roosevelt]

Join us each day that you can (and for any amount of time) during the period from 12:00 to 12:30 pm Central Time.  Each moment that we lift our minds, hearts, prayers and intentions for nonviolence, justice, and peace, we are doing one small part towards transformation in our world, our country, our community, and our hearts!

Below, you will find resources to support you in the vigil.
Virtual Vigil for Nonviolence, Justice, and Peace
Prayer for the Human Family (Book of Common Prayer)

O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer from the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas

O God, of Mercy and Compassion, open our hearts to your grace. We ask You to:
Bless us with courage to embrace nonviolence in our everyday lives
Bless us with vision to seek alternatives when violence appears as the only solution
Encourage us to look deeply at our own complicity that allows violence to continue in our own hearts and in our world
Bless us with insight to see the roots of violence inherent in Mercy's Critical Concerns
Bless us with the tenacity to stay committed to the struggle to shape a more peaceful, nonviolent world for all your people.

O good and gracious God, source of all life, all creation is charged with your Divine Energy. Grant us the strength and courage, we pray, for a radical transformation of our own lives and a deeper realization of your Kin-dom among us.   Amen
Prayer from the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods

Provident God, aware of our own brokenness, we ask for the gift of courage to identify how and where we are in need of conversion in order to live in solidarity with Earth and all creation. Deliver us from the silence that gives consent to abuse, war and evil. Grant us the desire and the courage to risk speaking and acting for the common good. God of love, mercy, and justice, acknowledging our complicity in those attitudes, actions, and words which perpetuate violence, we beg the grace of a non-violent heart.  Amen
